# Solo local quickstart

Download the current SoyaOS preview and run the built-in echo Agent.

SoyaOS is in alpha. Homebrew installation is currently unavailable: `brew install soyaos` requires trust for this third-party tap, and the tap formula still has a placeholder checksum. The old `https://soyaos.ai/install` script also returns 404. Use a published release binary for now.

## 1. Download the preview

The commands below download `v0.1.0-alpha.3` into the current directory on macOS or Linux (x86-64 or ARM64). Review the [release and signed assets](https://github.com/soyaos/soyaos/releases/tag/v0.1.0-alpha.3) before running them.

```bash
case "$(uname -s)-$(uname -m)" in
  Darwin-arm64) asset=soyaos-darwin-arm64 ;;
  Darwin-x86_64) asset=soyaos-darwin-amd64 ;;
  Linux-aarch64|Linux-arm64) asset=soyaos-linux-arm64 ;;
  Linux-x86_64) asset=soyaos-linux-amd64 ;;
  *) echo "Unsupported OS/architecture" >&2; exit 1 ;;
esac
curl -fL "https://github.com/soyaos/soyaos/releases/download/v0.1.0-alpha.3/$asset" -o soyaos &&
  chmod +x soyaos &&
  ./soyaos version
```

The version output should begin with `soyaos v0.1.0-alpha.3`. Run the following commands from the directory containing the binary. On Windows, download `soyaos-windows-amd64.exe` from the same release page; there is no published Scoop bucket yet.

To build from source, clone [soyaos/soyaos](https://github.com/soyaos/soyaos) and run `make build` with Go 1.23 or newer. The output is `bin/soyaos`.

## 2. Start Solo

```bash
./soyaos start
```

Leave this terminal running. Solo listens on `127.0.0.1:7474` for OpenAI-compatible requests and prints a local development API key at startup.

## 3. Try the echo Agent

In another terminal, from the directory containing the binary:

```bash
./soyaos agent run echo "hello"
```

You can also query the local API:

```bash
curl -f http://127.0.0.1:7474/v1/models \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk-soya-dev-local"
```

Run `./soyaos help` for the commands implemented by your binary. The alpha CLI also supports `agent create <name>` and `pack validate <path>`.

## Homebrew status

Homebrew [requires trust for third-party taps](https://docs.brew.sh/Tap-Trust). A fully qualified formula name avoids a separate `brew trust` command, but the current formula cannot install until its checksum is fixed and tested. Installing by the short name `brew install soyaos` without tap trust requires inclusion in `homebrew/core`, which [requires a stable release](https://docs.brew.sh/Acceptable-Formulae).
